Job Description

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid Sign Language Interpreter certification/license for Kansas
  • Proven experience working in an educational or school-based setting, preferably with high school students
  • Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiar with interpreting in classroom environments
  • Strong communication skills, professionalism, and ability to collaborate with teachers and staff
  • Committed to confidentiality, accurate interpretation, and supporting student independence

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide full-time sign language interpretation for a high school sophomore in general education classes
  • Facilitate effective communication between the student, teachers, and peers
  • Adapt interpretation methods as needed for various subjects and teaching styles
  • Assist in fostering an inclusive classroom environment
  • Support the students engagement, comprehension, and participation throughout the school day
  • Maintain accurate records and follow all district and ethical interpreting standards

Position Details:

  • Contract position starting as soon as possible and continuing through May 29
  • Full-time schedule, 35 hours per week
  • Assigned primarily to one student and focused on high school-level classes
