Job Description

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL), with strong expressive and receptive skills
  • Previous experience interpreting in educational settings preferred
  • National or state interpreter certification highly desirable
  • Understanding of IEP processes and educational accommodations
  • Excellent communication skills and professional demeanor
  • Ability to build rapport with students, staff, and families

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and activities for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and peers during school events, meetings, and extracurricular activities
  • Support educational access by accurately translating spoken language and signed communication in real time
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards and ethical guidelines
  • Collaborate with special education staff to support student learning plans and goals
  • Monitor and report student progress and needs to appropriate school personnel
