Your expertise as a Sign Language Interpreter or as a Teacher of American Sign Language will make a meaningful difference. As an itinerant interpreter, youll collaborate with staff and families, traveling between school locations to provide interpretation and language support where its needed most.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in educational settings
- Certification or licensure required by Illinois for interpreting in schools
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and families
- Adaptable, with strong communication and organizational skills
Responsibilities:
- Deliver clear and accurate ASL interpretation for elementary students, teachers, and staff
- Support classroom activities and enhance student engagement through effective communication
- Travel between school sites as an itinerant interpreter to meet district needs
- Collaborate with educators to support individualized learning plans and student success
