Job Description

Desired Experience and Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with nationally recognized certification (such as EIPA, RID, or equivalent)
  • Prior interpreting experience within educational settings strongly preferred
  • Ability to adapt interpreting style to suit student needs across grade levels and classroom situations
  • Professionalism, respect for confidentiality, and strong ethical standards
  • Flexibility and excellent interpersonal skills for collaborating with teachers, staff, and families
  • Understanding of IEPs and educational accommodations (a plus)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate interpretation of spoken language into ASL and vice versa during instruction, assemblies, and school activities
  • Foster inclusivity by enabling full student participation in classroom discussions and peer interactions
  • Collaborate with educators and support teams to help inform instructional strategies
  • Prep for lessons and clarify content as needed to enhance student understanding
  • Support school compliance with state and federal accessibility mandates
