Step into a meaningful opportunity working directly with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students as an onsite Sign Language Interpreter in an educational setting near Athens, AL. This full-time contract position offers a chance to make a positive impact on students academic experiences through expert language access and support.
Your primary responsibility will be to facilitate clear communication by interpreting spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa, helping to ensure equal access for students throughout the school day. You'll be part of a team dedicated to fostering a supportive learning environment, collaborating closely with educators, staff, and families.
Key Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Hold a current license or permit issued by the Alabama Licensure Board for Interpreters and Transliterators (ALBIT)
- Proven ability to interpret fluently between spoken English and ASL
- Professionalism, reliability, and a collaborative spirit
- Previous experience interpreting in school or educational settings preferred
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality, accurate interpreting services for students in classrooms and school activities
- Support classroom learning for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students by bridging communication with teachers and peers
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to school policies and interpreter code of ethics
- Collaborate with educational staff for student success
- Adapt communication approach to fit student needs and various educational contexts
