Seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support K-12 students in a dynamic school setting in Albuquerque, NM. This opportunity involves travel to various schools within the region, providing essential communication access for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. The role requires fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and a strong understanding of educational environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate effective communication between Deaf/Hard of Hearing students and their teachers, peers, and staff
- Interpret classroom lessons, school events, and extracurricular activities in ASL
- Collaborate with educators and support staff to accommodate student needs
- Travel to multiple school locations within Albuquerque and surrounding areas as needed
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards for interpreters in educational settings
Qualifications:
- Proficient in American Sign Language with educational interpreting experience preferred
- Knowledge of Deaf culture and rights within the education system
- Ability to travel locally to various school sites
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Previous experience working in schools or similar educational environments is highly desirable
- Certification in sign language interpreting (e.g., NAD certification) is a plus
