Job Description

A full-time 1:1 Registered Nurse is needed to provide specialized nursing care for a student enrolled in an Early Childhood Program. This role requires travel between the students home in Winfield, IL, and their school in Wheaton, IL, ensuring continuous health support throughout the school day.

Location: Wheaton, IL (student resides in Winfield, IL)
Assignment Dates: ASAP through May 28, 2026
Schedule: Monday through Wednesday full days; Thursday and Friday half days (9:00 AM to 11:45 AM)
Start Time: Nurse reports to the students home around 8:15 AM daily

Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to a student with complex medical needs including chronic lung disease, tracheostomy care, ventilator dependence during sleep, pulmonary hypertension, hypopituitarism, dysphagia, bilateral hearing loss, autism spectrum disorder, history of adrenal crisis, and G-tube feeding
  • Perform tracheostomy suctioning and trach insertion, maintaining airway safety at all times
  • Monitor and manage potential adrenal crises, including administration of Act-O-Vial injection of Solu-Cortef
  • Travel with the student by bus between the home and school, supporting mobility and health during transit
  • Collaborate with educational and medical teams to promote the students safety and well-being during the school day

Qualifications:

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois required; LPNs will not be considered
  • Prior experience in school nursing is mandatory
  • Proficient in trach care and emergency intervention, especially for adrenal crisis management
  • Ability to maintain vigilance and quickly respond to the childs unique health challenges
  • Reliable transportation and ability to commute daily from Winfield to Wheaton by bus
