Job Description
A Registered Nurse (RN) position is available to provide specialized 1:1 nursing care for a medically fragile student requiring school transportation support. This role is based in Lowell, MA, with assignments involving nearby communities including Malden, Somerville, and Arlington, MA. The position covers Extended School Year (ESY) from July 12 through August 6, and the New School Year (NSY) from August 31 through June 21, 2022. Work hours are four days per week, Tuesday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing safe and attentive bus transport for a wheelchair-dependent, non-verbal student from Medford to a nearby campus school
- Performing clinical assessments during transportation, including monitoring airway patency and vital signs such as oxygen saturation and heart rate
- Responding promptly to seizure activity and maintaining the student's comfort throughout transit
- Managing emergency equipment including an oxygen tank, suction machine, and administering emergency anticonvulsant medications as needed
- Documenting nursing assessments, interventions, and maintaining clear communication with the student's classroom nurse, parents, and health services supervisors
Qualifications:
- Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Experience working with medically fragile pediatric clients in a school or transport setting preferred
- Skilled in monitoring respiratory and seizure conditions along with emergency interventions
- Strong communication skills for coordination with educational and healthcare teams
