A contract opportunity is available for a Registered Nurse to provide 1:1 nursing care within a school setting in Wheaton, IL. This role involves supporting an Early Childhood Program student with complex medical needs, requiring specialized nursing skills and a commitment to student health and safety.
Location and Schedule:
- Work location includes the students home in Winfield, IL, with transportation via bus to and from school.
- The nurse will report to the students home at approximately 8:15 AM; the school day ends at 3:30 PM.
- Thursday and Friday are half days, with hours from 9:00 AM to 11:45 AM.
- This assignment is expected to start ASAP and continue through May 28, 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for a student with chronic lung disease, tracheostomy, ventilator dependence during sleep, pulmonary hypertension, hypopituitarism, dysphagia, bilateral hearing loss, Autism Spectrum Disorder, a history of adrenal crisis, and a G-tube.
- Perform trach suctioning and trach insertion as necessary.
- Monitor for signs of adrenal crisis and administer Act-O-Vial injection of SoluCortef in emergencies.
- Ensure the students health and safety during transportation and throughout the school day.
Qualifications:
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
- Previous school nursing experience required; LPNs are not eligible.
- Proficient in trach care including suctioning and insertion.
- Skilled in recognizing and managing adrenal crisis.
- Ability to accompany the student on the bus daily.
