Job Description

This full-time position is for a 1:1 Registered Nurse providing specialized care to a medically fragile pediatric student in a school-based, non-clinical setting located in the Joliet, IL area. The nurse will support the student throughout the school day and accompany them on the morning bus route, which involves a brief 510 minute commute. Additionally, the nurse will assist with classroom academics as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver comprehensive pediatric nursing care including ventilator management and trach care.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot ventilator settings, alarms, suctioning, and bagging procedures.
  • Provide emergency response support and manage equipment connections.
  • Administer gastrostomy tube feedings using an enteral pump, including feed preparation and water flushes.
  • Perform student positioning, transfers, incontinence management, and skin integrity checks.
  • Assist with donning and doffing ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs).
  • Support classroom academics in coordination with educational staff.

Qualifications:

  • Active, state-issued Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate endorsements issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
  • Proven proficiency in pediatric ventilator care, trach management, and emergency procedures.
  • Experience working in a school setting or with medically fragile pediatric populations is preferred.
  • Ability to work full-time with reliable attendance.
  • Must be able to physically accompany the student on the bus.
