Job Description

Seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse to provide dedicated 1:1 care for a high school-aged female student in Dekalb, IL. This full-time contract role runs until the end of the current school year and offers the rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact in a student's daily life.

In this position, you will work exclusively with one ambulatory student who does not require bus riding. Responsibilities focus on monitoring a tracheostomy and providing suctioning as needed during the school day. The role is based at a single school, ensuring you can build a trusting, reliable rapport with both the student and educational staff, all within a stable Monday through Friday schedule.

Qualifications:

  • Current Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license required
  • Experience with tracheostomy care, including suctioning and airway monitoring
  • Previous experience in a school or pediatric setting preferred
  • Comfortable working independently without direct supervision from medical support staff (e.g., CNA, LPN)
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills

Core Responsibilities:

  • Deliver attentive 1:1 nursing care to a high school student during school hours
  • Monitor tracheostomy site and perform suctioning as necessary to maintain airway
  • Maintain accurate, detailed health records and communicate updates to families and school personnel when needed
  • Promote the students independence and safety throughout daily school routines
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to any health-related emergencies

Work Schedule:

  • Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM 3:00 PM (includes 30-minute lunch)
  • 35 hours per week, with assignment continuing until May 20th
