Make an immediate impact by supporting a high school student in an educational environment dedicated to exceptional care. This contract role focuses on 1:1 nursing for a male student living with quadriplegia who uses a sip/puff wheelchair, has a tracheostomy, and requires ventilator support. The position is onsite and part-time, working Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7am-2:30pm. Your expertise will help a young person fully engage at school, ensuring safety and fostering independence during the academic year.
Key Qualifications:
- Active Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license required
- Previous experience in a school setting is essential
- Demonstrated proficiency with tracheostomy management, catheterization, and ventilator-dependent care
- Ability to safely lift and assist as needed
- Background in critical care nursing strongly preferred
- LPNs are not eligible for this position
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive, compassionate nursing care to one high school student
- Manage tracheostomy and ventilator needs throughout the school day
- Perform urinary catheterization to maintain student comfort and well-being
- Collaborate with school staff, educators, and families to promote a safe learning environment
- Keep detailed, accurate health records and coordinate with medical providers when necessary
- Respond promptly and confidently to any urgent health needs that may arise
