A full-time 1:1 Registered Nurse position is available to support a medically fragile student in a school-based, non-clinical setting in Chicago, IL. This role involves providing specialized pediatric nursing care while assisting with classroom academics as needed. The nurse will accompany the student on the morning bus, offering support during the commute and throughout the school day.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive care for a medically fragile pediatric student using ventilator support
- Perform pediatric ventilator care, including understanding settings, suctioning, bagging, and troubleshooting alarms
- Conduct tracheostomy care, including trach changes and HME management
- Manage equipment connections and ensure proper function
- Administer GT feedings using an enteral pump, including feed preparation and water flushes
- Assist with student positioning and transfers to maintain comfort and safety
- Monitor skin integrity and manage incontinence care
- Don and doff Ankle-Foot Orthoses (AFOs) as required
- Participate in emergency response procedures
- Support classroom academics in coordination with educational staff
Qualifications:
- Active State-Issued Nursing License
- Professional Educator License (PEL) with the appropriate endorsement from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE)
- Demonstrated proficiency in pediatric ventilator care and tracheostomy management
- Experience with enteral feeding, student transfers, and emergency response
