Job Description

A Registered Nurse is sought for a specialized school nursing role supporting a medically fragile student in the Chestnut Hill, MA area. This contract position involves providing attentive care during transportation to and from a school campus, ensuring the students safety and comfort throughout the day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely transport a wheelchair-dependent, non-verbal student from Medford, MA to a school campus in Chestnut Hill, MA
  • Conduct clinical assessments during transportation, including monitoring airway patency and oxygen saturation
  • Monitor and respond promptly to seizure activity using emergency anticonvulsant medications
  • Provide comfort measures and continuous observation throughout transit
  • Maintain detailed documentation of nursing assessments, interventions, and observations
  • Communicate effectively with the students classroom nurse, parent, and school health service supervisor

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required
  • Experience caring for medically complex pediatric patients, particularly those dependent on medical equipment such as oxygen tanks, suction machines, and monitoring devices
  • Ability to manage emergency situations calmly and competently
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with school and family teams
  • Dependability and professionalism during early morning transport duties

Schedule and Location:

  • Contract position starting July 12, 2021, through June 21, 2022, including extended school year (ESY) and regular school year (NSY) sessions
  • Work four days per week, Tuesday through Friday, from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM
  • Commutes between Medford, MA and Chestnut Hill, MA (approximate 10-minute drive)
  • Proximity to Malden, Somerville, and Arlington, MA, areas within 10 to 12 minutes drive
