Job Description

A Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) with school nursing experience is needed to provide specialized care for a medically fragile student. This contract position involves transporting the student between Medford, MA, and a campus school in Chestnut Hill, MA, with a schedule of four days per week (Tuesday through Friday) from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The assignment begins with Extended School Year services from mid-July through early August, continuing into the regular school year through late June.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely transport a wheelchair-dependent, non-verbal student from Medford to the campus school
  • Perform clinical assessments and monitor airway patency during transit
  • Observe and respond promptly to seizure activity and signs of discomfort
  • Maintain and operate medical equipment, including oxygen saturation, heart rate monitors, suction machines, and emergency medications
  • Document nursing assessments and interventions accurately
  • Communicate effectively with the students classroom nurse, parents, and school health services supervisors

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Licensed Registered Nurse in Massachusetts with valid credentials
  • Prior experience in school nursing or working with medically fragile children
  • Ability to manage emergency situations calmly and proficiently
  • Strong attention to detail in clinical documentation and communication
  • Familiarity with medical equipment used in pediatric care and transportation

Location Details:

  • Work involves travel between Medford and Chestnut Hill, with proximity to Malden, Somerville, and Arlington, MA
