Job Description

This contracted position offers the opportunity to provide specialized nursing care within an educational setting in the Brockton, MA area, focusing on supporting a medically fragile student during transportation to school. The role requires a Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) with experience in clinical assessment and monitoring of complex medical needs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Safely providing bus transportation nursing care to a wheelchair-dependent, non-verbal student from Medford, MA to a school campus in Chestnut Hill, MA
  • Conducting thorough clinical assessments during transport, including airway patency and comfort monitoring
  • Responding promptly and effectively to seizure activity and other medical emergencies
  • Utilizing and managing medical equipment such as oxygen saturation and heart rate monitors, emergency anticonvulsant medications, and suction machines
  • Accurately documenting nursing assessments and interventions throughout the shift
  • Coordinating communication with the students classroom nurse, parent, and school health services supervisor

Desired qualifications:

  • Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Experience with medically complex pediatric patients, especially those who are wheelchair dependent and require oxygen and seizure management
  • Strong observational and documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently in dynamic situations while prioritizing student safety and comfort

Schedule and location details:

  • Contract period from July 12 through August 6 (Extended School Year), then August 31 through June 21 next year (Normal School Year)
  • Four days per week, Tuesday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm
  • Key locations close by include Malden, Somerville, and Arlington, MA (within approximately 10-12 minutes travel)
