Make a meaningful impact by using your nursing skills to support a medically fragile student throughout the school year. This contract opportunity is ideal for an experienced Registered Nurse who is passionate about student care and eager to work closely with a single student in a school setting near Boston, MA. The role covers the Extended School Year (ESY) July 12 through August 6, and continues into the next school year from August 31 to June 21.
Key Qualifications:
- Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license required
- Prior experience in school nursing, pediatric care, or 1:1 clinical support strongly preferred
- Skilled in managing complex medical equipment, including oxygen tanks, suction machines, and heart/oxygen monitors
- Confident in providing clinical assessments, airway management, and seizure intervention
- Clear, professional communication skills for interactions with school staff and families
- Ability to work independently during transportation and in school environment
Responsibilities:
- Safely accompany, monitor, and support a wheelchair-dependent, non-verbal student during bus transportation to and from school
- Monitor vital signs and airway patency throughout travel
- Respond appropriately to seizure activity and other medical incidents as needed
- Maintain detailed documentation for all nursing assessments and interventions
- Coordinate care closely with the school nurse, parents, and the districts supervisor of health services
- Ensure all medical equipment is ready and properly functioning for transport
The role offers a consistent schedule: four days a week (Tuesday through Friday), 7:30am to 4:00pm. The location is conveniently accessible from Malden, Somerville, and Arlington.
