A contract opportunity is available for a Registered Nurse with experience in school-based nursing, located near Boston, MA. This position supports a medically fragile student requiring specialized care during transportation to a school in the Boston area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide safe bus transportation for a medically fragile, wheelchair-dependent, non-verbal student from Medford to the campus school in Chestnut Hill.
- Perform clinical assessments during transport including monitoring airway patency and seizure activity.
- Monitor vital signs using oxygen saturation and heart rate equipment and respond appropriately.
- Manage emergency equipment such as oxygen tanks, suction machines, and anticonvulsant medications.
- Document nursing assessments, interventions, and maintain clear communication with the students classroom nurse, parent, and school health supervisor.
- Support comfort and safety throughout the transportation process.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
- Experience in school nursing or with medically fragile students preferred.
- Ability to manage emergency medical equipment and respond quickly to health changes.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
Location: Boston, MA area with proximity to Malden, Somerville, and Arlington for convenience.
Schedule: Four days per week, Tuesday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The contract runs from July 12 through August 6 (Extended School Year) and resumes August 31 through June 21.
This role offers a vital service in ensuring the safety and well-being of a student with specialized health needs during school transportation. Candidates with relevant school nursing experience and registered nursing credentials are encouraged to apply promptly to support this important assignment.
