This full-time opportunity is for a 1:1 Registered Nurse serving a medically fragile pediatric student in a school-based, non-clinical setting. The role involves providing specialized nursing care and support throughout the school day at a K8 school in Aurora, IL, including accompanying the student on the morning bus (approximately 510 minutes commute). The nurse will also assist with classroom academics as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide pediatric ventilator care, including setting adjustments, suctioning, bagging, and troubleshooting ventilator alarms
- Perform tracheostomy care, including changes and use of Heat and Moisture Exchanger (HME) devices
- Manage medical equipment and connections, ensuring safety and functionality throughout the school day
- Administer GT feedings using enteral pumps, including feed preparation and water flushes
- Support student positioning, transfers, incontinence management, and perform skin checks
- Don and doff Ankle-Foot Orthoses (AFOs) properly
- Respond efficiently to medical emergencies, following established protocols
- Collaborate with educators to assist in classroom activities as needed
Desired Qualifications:
- Active State-Issued Nursing License
- Professional Educator License (PEL) with proper endorsement through the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE)
- Demonstrated expertise in pediatric ventilator and trach care within a school setting
