Location: San Francisco, CA

Schedule: 8.0 hours per day | 40 hours per week

Assignment: School-Year Contract (August End of Academic Year)

Position Overview

We are seeking reliable and student-focused Bus Aides to support transportation and school-day services for students across San Francisco. This role combines transportation support and on-campus instructional aide duties.

Candidates will begin and end their day at a centralized location, accompany students between home and school, and provide additional support during the school day at an assigned campus.

This is a highly responsible role requiring consistency, flexibility, and a strong team-oriented mindset.

Daily Schedule & Responsibilities

  • Report to a centralized location to meet assigned bus/route
  • Ride with the bus driver to pick up students at their homes
  • Ensure student safety and supervision during transport
  • Assist students during loading/unloading, including those with special needs
  • Travel with students to their assigned school site
  • Provide instructional aide support at the school during the day
  • At dismissal, accompany students on the bus back to their homes
  • Return to the centralized location at the end of the route

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support students during bus transportation
  • Assist students with behavior management and safety protocols
  • Support students with daily living needs, including:
    • Toileting and hygiene assistance
    • Feeding and mealtime support
  • Provide support for students with medical and physical needs (depending on assignment and training), including:
    • G-tube feeding
    • Blood glucose monitoring
    • Asthma treatment assistance
  • Collaborate with bus drivers, teachers, and school staff to ensure a safe and positive student experience
  • Maintain a calm, professional, and supportive environment at all times

Important Role Expectations

  • Role requires full-day commitment across transportation and school support
  • Candidates must be willing to perform all assigned duties within scope, including personal care and medical support
  • Assignments are based on student and route needs, and flexibility is required
  • Refusal to perform assigned responsibilities may result in dismissal
  • Strong attendance, reliability, and teamwork are critical to success

Minimum Qualifications

Must meet one of the following:

  • Associates Degree or higher
  • OR 48 college units + High School Diploma
  • OR Passing of CBEST + High School Diploma
  • OR Passing of Instructional Aide Exam + High School Diploma

Additional Requirements (Based on Assignment Level) S10 / S10A / S10E

  • Annual Emergency Anti-Seizure Medication Training (as required)
  • CPR & First Aid Certification (renewed every 2 years; district funded)

S10F (Advanced Health Support)

  • CPR & First Aid Certification
  • Training in:
    • G-tube feeding
    • Blood glucose testing
    • Asthma medication administration
    • Additional procedures (e.g., suctioning, catheterization, oxygen support)

S10Q (Behavioral Support)

  • Minimum 1 year experience working with students with significant behavioral or social-emotional needs

S10W (Community/Transport Support)

  • Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 5 hours) and remain active during routes and school activities

S20D (Deaf/Hard of Hearing Support)

  • Fluency in sign language systems
  • Knowledge of deaf culture
  • Ability to facilitate communication using sign language

S20V (Vision Support)

  • Preferred: Background in Braille or vision impairment support

S22 (Health Services Support)

  • Valid California LVN license
  • Current CPR & First Aid Certification

Compensation for this position ranges from $21.00 to $36.00. Eligible candidates may also receive healthcare benefits, housing, and meals/incidentals.
