Job Description

Qualifications and Desired Background:

  • At least two years of college credits from an accredited institution, or
  • An associate degree or higher, or
  • Passing score on an approved formal academic assessment (such as ParaPro, ParaPathways, or The Master Teacher), or
  • Demonstrated fulfillment of competencies listed in the MDE approved competency grid
  • PCA certificate (or willingness to obtainfree certification in under an hour)
  • Experience or strong interest in working with students requiring additional support, especially in special education environments
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team

Role Responsibilities:

  • Work under the direction of certified teachers and support students with varying educational and behavioral needs in a focus program setting
  • Assist with individualized and small-group instruction to reinforce learning objectives
  • Help maintain an organized, safe, and supportive classroom environment
  • Facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, and other staff
  • Contribute to implementing instructional strategies and individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Encourage and motivate students to participate fully and build positive relationships
