Job Description
Make a meaningful impact supporting students in a specialized educational environment dedicated to learners who benefit from additional care. This contract opportunity begins as soon as possible and runs for at least four months, with the strong possibility of extending up to twelve months. As a full-time paraprofessional, you will work weekdays from 8am to 4pm, providing one-on-one assistance to a student with emotional disabilities and diabetes.
Your presence and expertise will be vital in offering the structure, encouragement, and monitoring this student needs to thrive. You'll become part of a compassionate school team devoted to individualized approaches and supportive strategies.
Qualifications:
- Active Illinois paraprofessional certification required
- Holds a Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Paraprofessional endorsement
- Previous experience working with children who have emotional disabilities strongly preferred
- Familiarity with diabetes management in an educational setting is a plus
- Reliable, patient, and able to adapt to shifting needs throughout the day
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide consistent support to one student, implementing daily plans set by teachers and behavioral specialists
- Monitor and respond effectively to the student's emotional and medical needs
- Model positive interactions and de-escalation techniques
- Foster academic and social engagement within the specialized classroom
- Maintain detailed documentation of student progress and daily activities
