Job Description

Help make a difference in the lives of students by supporting lower teacher-to-pupil ratio classrooms in a school setting near Metairie, LA. This full-time contract opportunity extends through the entire academic year, offering a chance to work closely with students who have unique communication needs and may display challenging behaviors. If youre experienced in classrooms serving learners with Autism or related disabilities, and passionate about providing individualized support, this role could be a great fit.

What were seeking:

  • Associates Degree, ParaPro Assessment score of at least 450, or 48 semester credit hours (must meet at least one of these district-mandated requirements)
  • Prior classroom experience required
  • Familiarity with reading and interpreting IEPs
  • Preferred: CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) and de-escalation training, significant behavioral experience, CPR certification
  • Experience supporting students with Autism or similar disabilities
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Able to pass required district credentialing, including a drug test and fingerprinting

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide daily support to classroom teachers and meet the needs of students with complex communication abilities
  • Assist in implementing IEPs and adapting activities to individual student plans
  • Help manage behaviors and ensure a safe, supportive environment
  • Foster positive, respectful relationships with students, staff, and families
  • Maintain documentation, follow district policies, and support administrative tasks as needed
