Job Description
Make a meaningful impact in education by serving as an ASL Paraprofessional and Sign Language Interpreter in a welcoming elementary school environment. This contract position is located near Irvine, CA, and offers the chance to provide vital support to a 1st-grade student requiring one-on-one assistance. The assignment runs from ASAP through June 4, 2026, with consistent daytime hoursideal for experienced interpreters and paraprofessionals passionate about fostering accessibility and promoting academic success.
Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency and fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) required
- Experience working as a school paraprofessional or sign language interpreter preferred
- Previous 1:1 experience supporting students in an educational setting is highly valued
- Understanding of confidentiality and sensitivity in supporting young learners
- Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and student families
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive classroom environment
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a first-grade student throughout the school day
- Facilitate communication between the student, teachers, and classmates using ASL
- Assist with interpreting classroom instructions and activities
- Support the students academic, social, and emotional growth
- Foster independence while encouraging engagement in classroom tasks
- Collaborate with teachers and school staff to adapt materials as needed
- Maintain accurate records of daily activities and progress
