Job Description

Support student learning and growth as an Instructional Assistant in an alternative education elementary program. This contract position spans from early April through late May, providing assistance within a dynamic educational environment focused on personalized student engagement.

Location: Independence, MO (Connections Academy program at a neighborhood elementary school)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist teachers in delivering instruction aligned with the alternative education curriculum
  • Support students individually and in small groups to enhance learning and social skills
  • Monitor student behavior and promote a positive, inclusive classroom atmosphere
  • Prepare classroom materials and help with daily routines and transitions
  • Collaborate with staff to meet the diverse needs of students enrolled in the program

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Prior experience as a paraprofessional or instructional assistant, preferably in an elementary or alternative education setting
  • Strong communication skills and patience in working with students requiring additional academic and social support
  • Ability to follow guidance provided by lead educators and adapt to a specialized learning environment
  • Commitment to creating an encouraging and supportive classroom

Work Schedule:

  • Monday through Thursday: 8:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m.
  • Fridays: 7:45 a.m. 4:00 p.m.
  • Contract duration: April 6 to May 22
