Paraprofessional / 1:1 / Instructional Assistant opportunity available for the 20262027 academic year near Belding, MI! Work within a supportive, self-contained classroom environment, providing essential 1:1 support to students with a range of behavioral and communication needs. This contract position offers a unique chance to positively impact the school community while working closely with students who benefit from structured, compassionate guidance.
Key Qualifications:
- Experience as a paraprofessional, instructional assistant, or similar role in a school setting
- Demonstrated expertise managing aggressive behaviors, including de-escalation strategies and positive behavioral supports
- Comfort addressing eloping, biting, kicking, punching, and similar behaviors with professional composure
- Direct experience supporting students with non-verbal Autism, using individualized communication and assistive strategies
- Ability to thrive in a self-contained classroom, providing consistency and individualized attention
- Flexible, proactive, and empathic approach to diverse student needs
- Ready to participate in either in-person or virtual interviews
Position Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 attention and instructional support to assigned students, supporting academic and behavioral goals
- Assist with personal, behavioral, and social needs throughout the school day
- Collaborate with teaching staff and therapists to implement classroom routines and individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Supervise students during transitions, breaks, and classroom activities, ensuring safety at all times
- Model patience, consistency, and professionalism when managing challenging behaviors
- Track progress, document observations, and communicate clearly with the educational team and parents/guardians
