Key Qualifications:
- Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
- Experience supporting children and adolescents in educational or clinical environments
- In-depth knowledge of mobility aids, accessible technology, and orientation strategies
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration and documentation
- Ability to adapt instruction to meet individual student needs and IEP goals
Core Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized and group orientation and mobility instruction for students with visual impairments, ensuring safe and effective navigation both within school settings and in the community
- Assess students functional mobility skills and develop targeted goals and lesson plans
- Consult regularly with teachers, administrators, and parents to integrate mobility techniques into students daily routines and academic experiences
- Train students on the use of canes, optical aids, and technology for greater independence
- Participate in IEP meetings, providing expertise and updates on student progress
- Maintain accurate records and collaborate on reports to support students achievement and compliance requirements
