Key Qualifications:

  • Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)

  • Ability to adapt instruction to meet individual student needs and IEP goals

Core Responsibilities:

  • Deliver individualized and group orientation and mobility instruction for students with visual impairments, ensuring safe and effective navigation both within school settings and in the community
  • Assess students functional mobility skills and develop targeted goals and lesson plans
  • Consult regularly with teachers, administrators, and parents to integrate mobility techniques into students daily routines and academic experiences
  • Train students on the use of canes, optical aids, and technology for greater independence
  • Participate in IEP meetings, providing expertise and updates on student progress
  • Maintain accurate records and collaborate on reports to support students achievement and compliance requirements
