Job Description

An Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) is needed to support K-12 students in Waterford, MI, on a leave replacement contract basis. This onsite position offers a 35-hour workweek, primarily serving students in early childhood (EC) programs. The role provides an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping visually impaired students develop essential mobility and orientation skills for independence and confidence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct orientation and mobility assessments for students in EC programs
  • Develop and implement individualized mobility training plans
  • Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and families to support student learning
  • Provide consultation and training to school personnel regarding mobility needs
  • Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with district policies

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid Michigan Orientation and Mobility license required
  • Demonstrated professional experience working as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist in school settings
  • District fingerprint clearance required prior to employment
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Knowledge of best practices and current technology in orientation and mobility services

  • Onsite position in Waterford, Michigan serving K-12 schools
