Job Description

Bring your expertise as an Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Specialist to support students in a unique school-based contract role near Warwick, RI. This opportunity involves helping students develop the independent travel skills they need to succeed, with services provided in engaging community settings such as libraries, rather than a traditional classroom environment.

As an O&M Specialist, youll work one day each week, for a total of 7 hours, actively helping students learn safe and effective navigation strategies tailored to their individual needs. This flexible position allows you to have a focused impact while maintaining an excellent work-life balance.

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid O&M license required
  • Experience working with school-aged children or in educational environments preferred
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with families, school staff, and community partners
  • Ability to design and adapt instructional activities to meet a range of student abilities
  • Passion for supporting independence and inclusion

Role Responsibilities:

  • Conduct individual or small group orientation and mobility training sessions based on student caseload
  • Assess students current abilities and develop personalized plans to improve navigation skills
  • Provide instruction in real-world environments, such as libraries or other community spaces, to prepare students for everyday scenarios
  • Document progress, maintain accurate records, and communicate regularly with educational teams and families
  • Consult with school personnel to ensure integrated support and accommodations
