Qualifications and Experience:

  • Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) or eligibility for certification
  • Previous experience working in school-based settings is highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of assessment tools, teaching strategies, and individualized instruction for students with visual impairments
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with educational teams, students, and families
  • Ability to travel as needed to provide services within the designated area

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive orientation and mobility assessments for students with visual impairments
  • Develop and implement individualized instructional plans
  • Provide direct instruction in orientation and mobility techniques tailored to each students needs
  • Consult and collaborate with teachers, families, and other specialists to support student goals
  • Document sessions, monitor progress, and participate in IEP meetings as required
  • Ensure compliance with educational standards and district protocols
