An elementary school near Tinley Park, IL, is seeking a skilled Orientation and Mobility Specialist to support a 5th-grade student with a documented hearing impairment and bilateral cochlear implants. This contract position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by assisting a student who requires specialized support to safely navigate the school environment and access educational opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct a thorough evaluation of the students orientation and mobility needs
- Develop and implement customized strategies to enhance safe navigation within the school setting
- Provide one-on-one support and direct instruction to the student
- Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and family to ensure cohesive support
- Monitor progress and adjust interventions accordingly
Qualifications and Experience:
- Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
- Experience working with students with hearing impairments and mobility needs
- Ability to assess and implement strategies for safe navigation tailored to individual student requirements
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Commitment to fostering student independence and confidence
