Job Description

An exciting contract opportunity awaits experienced Orientation and Mobility Specialists with a passion for empowering students with visual impairments. This full-time role spans the 2026-2027 school year and offers a chance to make a meaningful difference, working directly with PK-12th grade students in a supportive educational setting. Youll be based onsite at a multi-school campus, helping students build confidence and independence through tailored mobility instruction.

Key Qualifications:

  • Current South Carolina Orientation & Mobility Specialist certification (COMS)
  • Experience providing O&M instruction to school-aged individuals, preferably across a range of ages and ability levels
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet individual learner needs
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with multidisciplinary teams, students, and families
  • Dedication to promoting student safety and autonomy

Core Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction in white cane use, trailing, human guide techniques, and safe navigation
  • Develop sensory awareness using auditory and tactile cues; teach use of environmental landmarks for orientation
  • Create individualized orientation and mobility plans, adapting them as student needs evolve
  • Collaborate with educators and staff across three schools to ensure students needs are met both in and outside the classroom
  • Maintain accurate records, participate in paid team meetings, and contribute to IEP/504 plan development
  • Paid for all worked hours within the contracted timeframe

The campus runs a Monday-Thursday schedule from 7:30-3:30, with an early dismissal on Fridays, allowing for dedicated planning and work-life balance.
