Key Qualifications:
- Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
- Prior experience working with children or adolescents in a school or educational setting
- Strong understanding of orientation and mobility techniques, assessments, and instructional strategies
- Ability to develop and adapt individualized education plans (IEPs) to meet student needs
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with students, families, and school teams
- Compassionate, patient, and adaptable to varying student abilities and learning styles
Your Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive orientation and mobility assessments for students with visual impairments
- Deliver direct instruction in cane skills, safe travel techniques, and spatial concepts tailored to individual IEP goals
- Collaborate closely with classroom teachers, special education teams, and families to ensure integrated support
- Track student progress, maintain detailed documentation, and contribute to IEP meetings
- Provide consultative services to staff regarding accessibility and best practices in supporting visually impaired students
