A full-time contract position is available for an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) in a school setting located in Simpsonville, SC. This role supports students from kindergarten through 12th grade, providing essential mobility and orientation instruction that fosters independence and confidence.
Key responsibilities include:
- Teaching the use of a white cane along with trailing and guiding techniques.
- Developing students sensory awareness, focusing on auditory and tactile skills.
- Utilizing environmental landmarks to help students establish their position and orientation in space.
- Managing a caseload covering various grade levels with scheduled hours from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM Monday through Thursday, and 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM on Friday.
- Participating in any required administrative tasks and team meetings with paid hours for work completed within the contract timeframe.
Candidates must hold current South Carolina Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS). The hiring process includes a Zoom interview, typically conducted individually, with a decision and offer turnaround time of 24 to 48 hours. Fingerprinting and background checks are required as part of the credentialing process.
