Job Description

Step into a vital contract opportunity as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) supporting schools near the Southeast Texas Coast. This part-time position is ideal for professionals committed to helping students gain independence and safety through expert mobility instruction within a K-12 educational setting. The assignment runs from August 3, 2026, to May 28, 2027, with an anticipated workload of about 20 hours per week. Specific caseload details and assigned campuses will be determined following an upcoming meeting with district leadership.

As one of only a few OMS professionals in the region, youll provide much-needed services where your expertise will make an immediate impact. The district is eager for someone who can step in and contribute to their ongoing mission for student support.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) certification
  • AVCREP certification or equivalent is strongly preferred
  • Experience delivering O&M instruction within a school setting
  • Ability to quickly process Texas-required fingerprinting and credentialing
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, independence, and advocacy for students with visual impairments

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess student needs and develop tailored orientation and mobility plans
  • Deliver instruction in navigation, cane skills, and safe travel techniques across K-12 ages
  • Collaborate with educational teams, families, and related service providers
  • Maintain clear and timely documentation in accordance with school district and legal standards
  • Participate in meetings as needed and provide expertise to staff and administrators
