Job Description

This contract opportunity is perfect for a dedicated Orientation and Mobility Specialist seeking to work with a diverse student population, ranging from 2nd grade through high school, across multiple school sites. The position is based onsite and runs from late July through late May, providing consistent hours throughout the school year.

What youll bring:

  • Current certification as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) via ACVREP
  • Valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) Teaching Certificate
  • Experience working with visually impaired (VI) students in educational settings
  • Ability to travel between different school locations as required
  • Strong organizational skills, with the autonomy to create your own daily and weekly schedules tailored to O&M goals and IEP requirements
  • Excellent communication and collaborative abilities with educators, families, and students

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide direct orientation and mobility instruction to VI students
  • Develop and implement individualized O&M programs that align with IEP objectives
  • Assess student needs and progress, documenting and reporting outcomes
  • Partner with multidisciplinary school teams and families to optimize student independence
  • Travel between designated school sites within the district as needed
  • Maintain accurate and timely records in compliance with district and state guidelines
