Empower students with visual impairments to navigate their world confidently in this rewarding contract opportunity. An experienced Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) is sought to support students from 2nd grade through high school, fostering independence and vital life skills. This position allows you to shape your own daily schedule, partnering with diverse school sites and tailoring services to each students Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
Key Qualifications:
- Valid COMS certification through AVCREP
- Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) Teaching Certificate
- Proven experience working with K-12 students, preferably in visual impairment programs
- Strong ability to assess, plan, and implement O&M instruction
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and documentation skills
- Willingness to travel between different school locations within the district
Core Responsibilities:
- Deliver orientation and mobility instruction to students with visual impairments, fostering safe, independent movement
- Develop, update, and implement individualized learning plans tailored to IEP goals across different educational settings
- Conduct assessments to determine students mobility needs and recommend appropriate support
- Collaborate closely with teachers, specialists, and families to maximize student progress
- Serve as an onsite resource for staff and stakeholders, providing guidance and professional insights
- Maintain compliance with documentation and reporting standards
