Job Description

Exciting opportunity for an Orientation and Mobility Specialist to support students in a rewarding educational setting. In this contract position, youll make a significant difference by empowering students with visual impairments to develop the confidence and independence they need to thrive. Work closely with an engaged team dedicated to inclusive education, and help shape positive learning experiences for young learners.

Candidates should possess:

  • Valid Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) certification
  • Strong understanding of techniques, strategies, and tools used in teaching orientation and mobility skills
  • Experience providing individualized instruction to students who are blind or visually impaired (preferred)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to collaborate with educators, families, and related service providers
  • Familiarity with assessments and developing instructional plans
  • Adaptable approach and commitment to student progress
  • State licensure (as required)

Responsibilities include:

  • Assessing students' orientation and mobility needs and developing customized instructional plans
  • Delivering direct instruction in safe, effective travel in various environments, both indoor and outdoor
  • Teaching students to utilize canes, navigational devices, and relevant assistive technology
  • Consulting with teachers, families, and school staff to support student mobility, safety, and access throughout the educational environment
  • Contributing to Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and documentation
  • Monitoring student progress and adjusting strategies to maximize outcomes
