Take the next step in your career by supporting K-12 students as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) for a contract opportunity based near Peabody and Andover, MA. In this rewarding role, youll play a vital part in helping students of varying ages build independence, confidence, and practical skills for navigating their environments.
This position centers on providing comprehensive orientation and mobility instruction to students with visual impairments. You'll collaborate with educational teams to design and implement individualized plans during the academic year, running from September 1, 2026, through June 14, 2027. With a consistent Monday-Friday schedule from 8:15 AM to 3:15 PM (32.5 hours per week), you can focus on meaningful, hands-on impact.
Desired Qualifications:
- Valid Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) certification
- Experience working with K-12 students with visual impairments preferred
- Ability to assess student needs and tailor instruction for different developmental levels
- Strong collaboration skills for working with teachers, families, and other support staff
- Passion for fostering independence and skill-building in students
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct orientation and mobility assessments for students across all grade levels
- Develop and implement individualized instructional plans focused on safe, confident travel
- Teach cane skills, environmental awareness, public transportation use, and street crossing safety
- Monitor student progress, document outcomes, and adjust plans as required
- Serve as a resource for staff and families on orientation and mobility best practices
