Job Description

An educational institution in Opa Locka, FL is seeking a skilled Orientation and Mobility Specialist to support students for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year. This contract position offers 37.5 hours per week dedicated to empowering visually impaired students with the skills they need to navigate their environments independently and confidently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized instruction and training in mobility techniques and orientation strategies tailored to students needs.
  • Teach the effective use of assistive technologies that facilitate safe navigation in school, home, and community settings.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adapting methods to optimize learning outcomes.
  • Collaborate with educators, families, and support staff to create a comprehensive learning experience for each student.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited university or college with a focus on Orientation and Mobility; Masters degree preferred.
  • Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) or eligibility to attain certification within the designated timeframe.
  • Prior experience working with visually impaired students is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in verbal and written English with strong communication skills.
  • Bilingual candidates fluent in English and Spanish are highly encouraged to apply.
