Job Description

Step into a rewarding role supporting students as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist in a vibrant educational community near Norfolk, VA. This contract opportunity runs from August 24, 2026, through June 4, 2027, with a full-time schedule of 37.5 hours per week. Your expertise will help foster greater independence and mobility for students across multiple school sites within the district, working with a diverse K-12 caseload.

Youll have the chance to make an impact in a district renowned for its supportive leadership and collaborative environment. The position is fully onsite, engaging directly with students and staff, with training and district-specific onboarding provided.

Qualifications:

  • Current Virginia Orientation & Mobility Specialist Certification required
  • Previous experience supporting school-aged students (preferred but not required)
  • Strong assessment, instruction, and documentation skills
  • Ability to travel between multiple school sites as needed
  • Enthusiasm for working with a diverse student population across a wide age range
  • Effective communication skills with students, staff, and families

Responsibilities:

  • Provide orientation and mobility instruction to K-12 students with visual impairments
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Collaborate with teachers, families, and related services to optimize student outcomes
  • Conduct assessments to determine student needs and goal progress
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate progress to relevant stakeholders
  • Travel to various schools within the district to support student needs onsite
