Job Description

A school near Miami, Florida is seeking a committed Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) for the 20252026 school year. This full-time contract role offers 37.5 hours per week, providing specialized support to students with visual impairments. The position focuses on helping students gain independence and confidence as they navigate school, home, and community environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide instruction in orientation and mobility techniques tailored to individual student needs
  • Incorporate assistive technology to strengthen navigation and independence skills
  • Conduct assessments and create personalized orientation and mobility plans
  • Collaborate with teachers, families, and related service providers to support student progress

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Orientation and Mobility or a related field from an accredited program (Masters preferred)
  • Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) credential, or eligibility to obtain certification within a designated timeframe
  • Experience working with students with visual impairments preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus
