Orientation and Mobility Specialist Opportunity Miami, FL (Contract Position)

A school in Miami, FL is seeking a dedicated Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) for the upcoming 2025/26 school year. This contract role offers 37.5 hours per week supporting students with visual impairments by providing essential mobility and orientation training. The position is focused on helping students build independence and confidence navigating school, home, and community environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver instruction and training in mobility techniques and orientation strategies tailored to visually impaired students
  • Utilize assistive technologies to enhance student navigation skills
  • Assess individual student needs and develop customized orientation and mobility plans
  • Collaborate with educators, families, and related service providers to support student success

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree with emphasis in Orientation and Mobility from an accredited institution; Masters degree preferred
  • Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) certification or eligible to obtain certification within the designated timeframe
  • Previous experience working with visually impaired students preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
