This contract position offers a 37.5-hour workweek for the upcoming 25/26 school year, located in Miami Beach, FL. The role involves providing specialized instruction and training in mobility techniques, orientation strategies, and the use of assistive technologies. The goal is to empower students with visual impairments to confidently navigate their school, home, and community environments, supporting their independence and daily functioning.
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering individualized orientation and mobility instruction tailored to students' needs.
- Teaching effective use of assistive devices and adaptive techniques.
- Collaborating with educators, families, and support staff to create comprehensive mobility plans.
- Monitoring student progress and adjusting teaching strategies accordingly.
- Maintaining detailed documentation and communication to ensure continuity of care.
Qualifications and desired experience:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited university or college with an emphasis in Orientation and Mobility; Masters degree preferred.
- Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) credential or eligibility with the ability to obtain certification within the required timeframe.
- Previous experience working with visually impaired students preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency is preferred to effectively serve diverse student populations.
