Job Description

Excel in a vital role supporting students as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist for the upcoming 2025/26 school year on a contract basis near Miami Beach. With a full-time schedule of 37.5 hours each week, you'll empower students with visual impairments to navigate school, home, and their community with independence and confidence.

In this opening, you'll provide individualized instruction in mobility techniques, orientation strategies, and train students in the use of assistive technologies. Your expertise helps build essential skills, supporting student growth and success both inside and outside the classroom.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with a focus in Orientation and Mobility (Masters degree preferred)
  • Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS), or eligibility and ability to attain certification within a specified timeframe
  • Prior experience working with individuals who are visually impaired is highly valued
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills
  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish are preferred

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver orientation and mobility instruction that meets each students unique needs
  • Develop and implement tailored lesson plans and progress assessments
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, families, and school staff
  • Document and report on student progress and recommendations
  • Train students in the use of relevant assistive technology devices
