Make a meaningful difference supporting K-12 students as a specialized Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Specialist. This engaging, contract-based position involves working onsite during the academic year with a diverse student population to help them navigate their educational environments confidently and safely. If you are an expert in empowering visually impaired students to reach greater independence, your expertise will be highly valued.
Key Qualifications:
- Active Orientation and Mobility Specialist (O&M) license required
- Previous experience working with school-aged children (K-12), covering a range of ages and abilities
- Thorough knowledge of O&M instructional techniques and adaptive equipment
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with educators, students, and families
- Ability to assess, develop, and implement individualized O&M plans
- Commitment to promoting student safety and independence in school and community settings
Responsibilities:
- Conduct orientation and mobility assessments for students with visual impairments
- Develop and implement individualized instruction for safe navigation in various environments, including school premises and travel within the community
- Work collaboratively with other educational professionals to ensure student goals are integrated with overall educational plans
- Consult with teachers and support staff to provide guidance and resources
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, adapting goals as necessary
- Facilitate independence and self-advocacy for students with visual impairments
This contract position offers a full-time weekly schedule of 32.5 hours, running from September through June during regular school hours. Youll provide direct onsite support while working alongside passionate educators dedicated to student growth.
