Requirements and Preferred Experience:
- Current certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
- Experience working with students from kindergarten through high school
- Strong understanding of best practices in mobility instruction
- Excellent communication skills to partner with educators, families, and support teams
- Ability to design and deliver individualized O&M plans for diverse learners
- Commitment to fostering confidence, safety, and autonomy in students with visual impairments
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to determine student mobility needs
- Create, implement, and adjust O&M instructional plans for a K-12 caseload
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to provide effective support and guidance
- Teach safe and independent travel skills, both within school settings and outdoors
- Document student progress and maintain compliance with district and state standards
- Serve as a resource to school personnel on orientation and mobility best practices
This full-time, contract role runs from September 1, 2026, to June 14, 2027, with hours set from 8:15 AM to 3:15 PM, totaling 32.5 hours per week. Youll be the sole O&M specialist, making a tangible difference for students across various grade levels.
