Job Description

Sunbelt Staffing is seeking a qualified Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Specialist for a school-based position near Lawrence, MA. This role is ideal for a compassionate professional dedicated to helping students with visual impairments safely navigate their school and community environments while promoting independence.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct O&M instruction to students with visual impairments
  • Conduct assessments to evaluate students orientation and mobility needs
  • Develop and implement individualized O&M goals as part of the IEP team
  • Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and families
  • Train students in safe travel skills, including use of assistive devices (e.g., white cane)
  • Evaluate and support environmental accessibility within the school setting
  • Maintain accurate documentation and progress reports in compliance with district and state guidelines

Qualifications:

  • Certification as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) required
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Orientation & Mobility, Visual Impairment, or related field
  • Previous school-based experience preferred
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to pass background checks and meet Massachusetts state requirements

Position Details:

  • Full-time, 37.5 hours per week 
  • Caseload and school assignment based on experience and preference

Compensation for this position ranges from $50.00 to $80.00. Eligible candidates may also receive healthcare benefits, housing, and meals/incidentals.
