Sunbelt Staffing is seeking a qualified Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Specialist for a school-based position near Lawrence, MA. This role is ideal for a compassionate professional dedicated to helping students with visual impairments safely navigate their school and community environments while promoting independence.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct O&M instruction to students with visual impairments
- Conduct assessments to evaluate students orientation and mobility needs
- Develop and implement individualized O&M goals as part of the IEP team
- Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and families
- Train students in safe travel skills, including use of assistive devices (e.g., white cane)
- Evaluate and support environmental accessibility within the school setting
- Maintain accurate documentation and progress reports in compliance with district and state guidelines
Qualifications:
- Certification as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) required
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Orientation & Mobility, Visual Impairment, or related field
- Previous school-based experience preferred
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to pass background checks and meet Massachusetts state requirements
Position Details:
- Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
- Caseload and school assignment based on experience and preference
