Exciting contract opportunity for an Orientation and Mobility Specialist working with K-12 students of varying ages. This position, based near Lawrence, MA, offers a rewarding chance to make a lasting impact in the field of special education. You'll work within a supportive school environment, assisting students in developing critical skills for independence and safe navigation.
Key Qualifications:
- State certification and/or licensure as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
- Relevant experience in a school or educational setting, working with K-12 students
- Ability to develop and implement individualized orientation and mobility plans for students with visual impairments
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with teachers, parents, and support staff
- Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive learning atmosphere
Responsibilities:
- Assess students mobility needs and create tailored instructional plans
- Provide direct instruction on safe and effective travel techniques, both on and off campus
- Collaborate with the educational team to support each students IEP goals
- Maintain thorough documentation of student progress and interventions
- Offer guidance and training to school staff and families as needed
- Adapt strategies to meet the varied developmental levels and abilities of the K-12 student population
Position Details:
- Contract role
- Location: Andover, MA, near Lawrence
- Dates: September 1, 2026, through June 14, 2027
- Schedule: 32.5 hours per week, MondayFriday, 8:15 AM 3:15 PM
