Job Description

A full-time Orientation and Mobility Specialist position is available for the upcoming school year in a K-12 school setting located in Kansas City, KS. This contract role offers an opportunity to work onsite, providing essential services to students with visual impairments to enhance their independence and mobility skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and develop orientation and mobility skills for students from kindergarten through 12th grade
  • Design and implement individualized programs to support safe and confident navigation within school and community environments
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and related service providers to integrate orientation and mobility goals into the broader educational plan
  • Maintain documentation and progress reporting in compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Provide training and support to school staff as needed to assist students with visual impairments

Qualifications:

  • Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) credential required
  • Valid certification to practice in Kansas (KS) mandatory
  • Experience working with school-age children, K-12 population preferred
  • Strong knowledge of techniques and tools used in orientation and mobility instruction
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
