Job Description

A licensed Orientation and Mobility Specialist is sought for a contract position in the Joliet, IL area to provide a specialized evaluation and support for a 5th-grade student with hearing impairments. This role focuses on assessing and facilitating safe and effective navigation for a student with bilateral cochlear implants within an elementary school setting near Tinley Park.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a thorough orientation and mobility evaluation tailored to the student's unique needs.
  • Develop and implement strategies to support the students access to and safe navigation within the school environment.
  • Collaborate closely with educators, support staff, and families to integrate mobility plans seamlessly.
  • Monitor and adjust interventions to promote independence and safety as the student progresses.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS).
  • Experience working with students with hearing impairments, especially those with cochlear implants.
  • Proven ability to manage an elementary-level caseload effectively.
  • Strong communication skills and experience collaborating with school teams.
