Job Description

Seeking an experienced Orientation and Mobility Specialist for a contract opportunity supporting students across PK-12th grade onsite at a single campus with three schools, located near Inman, SC. This full-time role begins August 10, 2026 and runs through May 21, 2027, with working hours from 7:30 am3:30 pm Monday through Thursday, and 7:30 am1:30 pm on Fridays. The caseload includes 2535 students, with some fluctuation expected throughout the year.

In this role, you will provide direct instruction in orientation and mobility techniques for students who are blind or visually impaired. Youll teach skills such as safe navigation with a white cane, environmental awareness, trail-following, and the strategies required to move independently using auditory, tactile, and landmark cues.

Qualifications:

  • Certification as a South Carolina Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS)
  • Demonstrated expertise in orientation and mobility instruction for school-aged learners
  • Previous experience working with children and adolescents with visual impairments is preferred
  • Strong communication, documentation, and collaboration abilities
  • Comfortable adapting instruction to varying student needs and abilities
  • Must be able to work onsite. Fingerprinting and background checks are required prior to start.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement orientation and mobility assessments and individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Instruct students in safe travel techniques within school and community settings
  • Collaborate with school personnel and families to facilitate educational access
  • Participate in paid team meetings and administrative planning during contracted hours
  • Maintain accurate and timely records
