Job Description

Step into a vital role supporting students with visual impairments across PK-12th grade on an engaging full-time contract assignment. This position focuses on delivering expert orientation and mobility (O&M) instruction to approximately 25-35 learners on a single campus housing three schools, located near Inman, SC. With your guidance, students will gain essential independence skillshelping to shape their mobility, confidence, and autonomy inside and beyond the classroom.

Key Qualifications:

  • Possession of a current South Carolina Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) certification
  • Demonstrated experience in white cane training, trailing, guiding, and landmark-based navigation
  • Strong skill in supporting the development of auditory and tactile sensory awareness
  • Ability to adapt strategies for a range of PK-12 learners of varying needs and abilities
  • Comfortable providing services to a flexible caseload that may shift through the year
  • Proficiency in collaborating with educational teams and participating in IEP meetings

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teach individualized orientation and mobility techniques, including proper use of a white cane and safe navigation strategies
  • Assess student needs and create customized instructional plans based on each learners strengths and goals
  • Guide students in developing sensory and spatial awareness, utilizing auditory and tactile cues
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary school staff and participate in team meetings, with all hours within your contract period compensated
  • Maintain thorough and accurate student progress reports and documentation
  • Commit to a consistent onsite schedule: Monday-Thursday 7:30am-3:30pm; Friday 7:30am-1:30pm
