Job Description

An Orientation and Mobility Specialist position is available for the upcoming 25/26 school year in Hollywood, FL. This contract role involves providing specialized instruction and training to visually impaired students, enabling them to confidently navigate school, home, and community environments through the use of mobility techniques, orientation strategies, and assistive technologies. The position requires a commitment of 37.5 hours per week.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering tailored mobility and orientation instruction to students with visual impairments
  • Assessing individual student needs and developing effective strategies to enhance independence
  • Utilizing assistive technologies to support mobility and orientation skills
  • Collaborating with educators, families, and support staff to maximize student progress
  • Maintaining accurate records and reports regarding student progress and service delivery

Qualifications and preferred experience:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited university or college with a focus on Orientation and Mobility; Masters degree preferred
  • Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) credential or eligibility for certification with the ability to attain certification within set timelines
  • Experience working with visually impaired individuals highly preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; bilingual English/Spanish preferred
